There are two juveniles in Mr.Sharma's family. At least one juvenile is a boy. What is the probability that both of the juveniles are boys?

Also, there are two juveniles in Mr.Verma's family. The older juvenile is a girl. What is the probability that both of the juveniles are girls?

  Difficulty Level - 3/5

  Update Your Answers : Click Here

  Solution :

  1/3 and 1/2 >>>>>>
Since there
are two juveniles in Mr.Sharma's family, at least one of which is a boy, there are three equally probable cases: Boy-Boy, Boy-Girl or Girl-Boy. In only one case, both juveniles are boys, so the probability that both are boys is 1/3.
Mr.Verma's family situation is different. Knowing that the older juvenile is a girl, there are only two equally probable cases:
Girl-Girl or Girl-Boy. Therefore the probability that both juveniles are girls is 1/2 .

Mathematical Reasoning Puzzle

You are running a small business. To promote your brand, you decided to distribute Red, Black and Green Pens (having your brand name on them) among 100 persons. You have a budget of 100 dollars.
You decided not buy a single pen extra and also spending the exact $100 on buying pens. (Expecting printing cost nil)
The cost of different colored pens i.e Red, Black and Green Pens are $6, $3 ad $0.10 respectively.
So, what is the exact number of different colored pens will you buy ?
Mathematical Reasoning Puzzle - Puzzles

  Update Your Answers : Click Here

  Solution :

   Let "R", "B" and "G" be the number of Red, Black and Green Pens. We know two equations:
           R +   B +        G = 100                                       --- 1
        6R + 3B + 0.1G = 100                                --- 2
By multiplying the first equation by 6 and then 3 >>
        6R + 6B + 6G = 600
        3R + 3B + 3G = 300
Subtracting these two equations from the second, we can come up with two more equations:
                  3B = 500 - 5.9G
                  3R = 2.9G - 200
Normally, two equations isn't enough to solve for three variables.
But R,B and G are non-negative integers.
So, if 3B ≥ 0, then 500 - 5.9G ≥ 0. This means G ≤ 84.75.
Also, if 3R ≥ 0, then 2.9G - 200 ≥ 0. This means G ≥ 68.97.
i.e only two numbers can be possible which are 70 & 80.(as pens can't be fractional)
>>>> If G=80, then, R=10.67, and B=9.33. But R and B must be integers, so, it is not the solution.

>>>> If G=70, then, R=1, and B=29.

So, 1 Red Pen must be bought for $6.00, 29 Black Pens must be bought for $87.00, and
70 Green Pens must be bought for $7.00.

Counting Gallons Puzzle

#157

One of my friend was going from my hometown, Kaithal to Karnal, with a full tank of gasoline i.e. 23 gallons.
But unfortunately, at that exact moment his gasoline tank sprang a leak, due to which he started losing 1 gallon of fuel each hour.
When going to Karnal which is 60 kms away, he could only manage a speed of 12 kmph.
But on the way back to Kaithal, he managed a speed of 16 kmph.
(He was travelling at 8 kms per gallon)
Were 23 gallons enough for the round trip ??
If not, how much more gallons, he needs ??

  Difficulty Level - 3/5

  Update Your Answers : Click Here

  Solution :

   The trip was a total of 120 kms, which at 8 kms to the gallon, used 15 gallons.
   The outward trip of 60 kms was at 12 kmph, which took 5 hours.
   The return trip was at 16 kmph, which took 3.75 hours.
   Which is a total journey time of 8.75 hours, which meant that 8.75 gallons were lost.
   So, 15 gallons were used for the trip, 8.75 gallons were lost, which is a total of 23.75 gallons.
   So, 23 gallons was not enough for the round trip and he needs 0.75 gallons more.

Length Of Wire Puzzle

Leave a Comment
#156

One of my friend, Shaun asked me to bring a wire from the market.
I was so confused at that moment, that I accidentally interchanged the feet and inches.
When he measured the wire that I brought, it was only 5/8 of the length required.
Can you tell, how much wire did Shaun originally asked to bring ??

  Difficulty Level - 3/5

  Update Your Answers : Click Here

  Solution :

   Shaun asked for 7 feet, 4 inches but I brought 4 feet, 7 inches.
   If we label what Shaun asked for as A feet and B inches, which is (12 x A + B) inches, then he actually received B feet and A inches, which is (12 x B + A) inches. Which means that :
   (5 ÷ 8) x (12 x A + B) = (12 x B + A)
Simplifying gives :
   A = (91 ÷ 52) x B >>> A = (7 ÷ 4) x B
As B is the number of inches, it can only be between 1 and 12 and must give A as a whole number of feet.
B = 4 is the only possible value, which means that A = 7.
So, Shaun originally asked for 7 feet, 4 inches.
