When I asked my friend about his birthday. He replied "the day before yesterday, I was only 22 & next year I will turn 25". When was he born and when did he speak this?

He was born on 31st December & he spoke about this on 1st January.
On Dec. 30, my friend was still 22.
Yesterday, Dec. 31st, was his 23rd birthday.
Today is Jan. 1st. This year he will turn 24,
and next year, he will turn 25.
